RT CaresContinuing to do Our BestThe RT Sourcing 'family' is the backbone of a unique company comprised of a wide range of diverse and interesting people from almost every continent in the world. Our vision, as defined by our Chief Executive Officer Caleb J. Hayhoe, has always been to be involved in the communities in which we live, work and play — to stand proud as global citizens with a conscience, with humility and with integrity. Nothing exemplifies this spirit as well as the various local community initiatives RT Sourcing has been involved with over the years. The Indian Ocean tsunami on December 24, 2004, which wreaked havoc and utter devastation throughout costal communities from India, Thailand, Malaysia and Sri Lanka, to Southern and Eastern Africa, prompted us to create a global corporate effort to aid an area we had all traveled in as guests, visited on business or at the very least followed in the world news. RT Sourcing global headquarters are in Hong Kong. The effect the tsunami had in our Asian region, literally on our doorstep, was a painful reminder that the awesome power of Mother Nature can strike with ruthless force anywhere, at any time, leaving tens of thousands of people without homes and families without a livelihood. RT Sourcing chose to make a special effort in a specific region where we could have maximum impact. Through research, it became clear that Sri Lanka was a region which needed extra help — out of a population of 19 million people, 30,000 lost their lives and another 10,000 were still missing. Children were especially impacted. Fueled by a desire to work with the most innocent of victims, we narrowed our focus to a formerly picturesque fishing village — Kirinda, on the south eastern coast of the island, 298 kilometers from Colombo. Here, of the 400 children left alive after the tsunami, 368 were orphaned and left homeless. The village had no school to provide a future for its children. RT Sourcing cares…Donations of money, books and school supplies from our global staff and business partners in China were collected. Working with local contacts, a program was devised through which we donated a monthly stipend to provide food and shelter for 14 orphans, and to rebuild, repaint and stock the local school. A number of toilet and sanitation facilities were set up and several fishing boats purchased. In a small way, we were able to bring hope to the lives of a few people and to give the children of Kirinda a future. RT Sourcing will continue do our best to impact our local communities and reach out to help where we can, with or without the catalyst of natural disasters. All too often, world communities respond with a flurry of activity that quickly subsides when the next big news story hits. RT Sourcing cares, and is here to stay. |
